Surgical weight loss refers to either lap band surgery or bariatric surgery.

Lap band is the procedure in which the doctor places a band around the patient's stomach, therefore allowing it to accommodate foods only in a small portion. This is what determines patients eat less, therefore they are going to lose weight easily. Maintaining the weight becomes then natural, so this kind of fat surgery has a lot of benefits. However, there are cases when the patient may need medical interventions post-surgery, especially if the bands gets loose or if they swallow something too big to fit the small "stomach gate", case in which they vomit and dehydrate quickly.
